Looking for a quick weekend away? I highly recommend the Minneapolis for a 3 day weekend. Airfare is usually very reasonable! Theres much to do but for this particular trip we went just for the fair and the mall which are both worthy excursions on their own!
Day 1:
We had every intention of going to the Minnesota State Fair today, but we couldn’t find a parking spot, shuttle to a parking spot, yard to park in...yes, that’s legit a real thing here. People who live close the fair grounds have people park on their front lawns. So, we went to Smack Shack, a seafood place from Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives for lunch. Yumm. We passed the gentlemen’s club to get there, in the downtown area. Headed to the Mall of America after that. Soooo much to see here. We’re all exhausted so we will head back to the hotel, chill in the hot tub, and crash early.
Day 2: we made it to the fair!
The girls went in their first Haunted House today. I thought meh, how scary can it be for $4 entry? The girls thanked me later for traumatizing them. Mission accomplished.
Minnesota State fair is crazy huge. For the amount of people that come in, it doesn’t feel overly crowded. We lasted 8 hours and the girls and I came back early. Ed stayed to watch Belinda Carlisle from the Go-Go’s (“Circle in the sand”, “heaven is a place on earth” of her solo songs) tonight, much later. Meh to that. Out of 17 songs I knew 8 on the list. But, that’s his celebrity girlfriend so he wanted to stay.
The girls and I came back to the hotel just to chill. I know we have to do dinner later but sooo not looking forward to leaving.
Day 3: back at the Minnesota State Fair! We took the sky tram to cut down on walking. I was too chicken to take out my camera while on it, but the first pic is a littering of bras and panties on the roofs of the buildings on the path. The kids thought that was hilarious. Crowds were crazy but the lines were not bad. Dole whip at 930am because Dole whip.
Headed back to the mall for a quick dinner in a bit and a late evening flight home.
This was a fun trip. I enjoyed all of the animals, the crazy good food booths, the swag…but most importantly the family time. The kids loved the rides and games.
This was an affordable family weekend. Success!
