Part of our tour of Northern India is called the golden triangle. It’s Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. The Taj Mahal is in Agra, which is our next stop.
Driving here cracks me up. You miss an exit on the road? You just stop and go in reverse. Better yet, sometimes you pull a u-y and drive into oncoming traffic. I’ve seen it. How there are not collisions here I have no idea. So many speed bumps too!
We finished up in Delhi with the Lotus Temple. It was super hot so we didn’t remove our shoes and walked the walk to see the inside. We took pictures outside.
Then we hopped in the car with our driver and started towards Agra. What a beautiful city! It has gorgeous artwork of paintings and sculptures. It’s very clean as well.
Our hotel is very nice and I’m excited that the shower has a door. The last two hotels didn’t and I’ve taken one shower that flooded a bathroom and one cold bucket shower as the hot water wouldn’t come on. I wish they’d give you more toilet paper though.
We had lunch and took a nap and headed for the Taj Mahal. Mark another off the bucket list: monkeys living amongst humans. The grounds are very pretty but nothing can possibly prepare you for the sight that is the Taj Mahal.
We had a photographer join us and take photos. Nisha and Sumanth went inside the Taj Mahal but I didn’t. I was feeling very hot a not myself. I stayed outside and enjoyed listening to the parakeets.
Then a group of girls swarmed me. They were on a school trip, in uniform, looked to be middle school. They had phones. They came and sat with me and tried to talk to me but language barrier. They knew a few words in English. They wanted to see pictures of my family. They took selfies with me. I’m now probably a popular Indian meme as fat sweaty American but hey, whatever. Then I had two twenty-somethings come and talk to me. Two men eager to try out their English with small talk. They passed!
We headed back to the entrance. I snapped a random shot of a bunch of monkeys and a cow. Saw more street dogs.
Today was a fun day.
