Today we started with a continental breakfast served on the rooftop of our riad. We hired a tour guide through the day with Tours By Locals. Mohammad was phenomenal. He was 28, excellent English and knew a lot about the USA and could translate things there to things in Morocco and made it very educational.
We started with a walk out of the Medina (where our riad is) and took a van to Marjorelle Garden where Yves St Laurent, famous fashion designer, had lived.
It was neat to tour the museum too and see some of his prototypes. I was surprised the gift shop didn’t have any of his product lines. I’d have bought another lipstick!
We headed to the Jewish part of town and had a snack to recharge our batteries. Lex is so enamored with all of the stray cats. We can’t get through a meal. Our guide is so personable-we really enjoyed his company. He wanted to guess what kind of dogs we had. He guessed right on a sausage dog but not the corgi, which he kept pronouncing as orgy.
We headed to the souks and the square and walked around.
I did see snake charmers and while I’m not a fan of snakes, people are right: the animals in the square are mistreated. I felt bad for the cobra. I had every intention of getting pictures of them, and lex snuck a few off to the side, but just no.
We went to a co-op where they make wool rugs. Aside from trying to sell to us it was neat. We went to the dying souk where they dyed fabrics-Lex bought a scarf.
We saw blacksmiths and woodcarvers.
A fun day. My foot blistered up and bled from the walking so I was pretty crabby by evening.
We took naps and argued about what to do for dinner. My foot wasn’t going to cooperate and I just wanted to eat at the hotel. Instead, Ed and Lex went out and bought Annicakes and I crepes for dinner and then they went back out and wandered around town.
Annicakes and I watched a few old episodes of House (remember that show??) and packed for tomorrow as we embark on a 3 day trip.
