Today is my birthday (7/17) and what better way to kick it off than with my Bigfoot birthday shirt!
Ed and I headed to breakfast and hit up the most interesting Target. It’s in the middle of downtown and has three levels. Next to the escalator is a ramp just for carts! I guess I’m easily impressed. Along the way at the crosswalk was a graffiti that said “Keto”. Someone on the streets must take that very serious. Once again, easily amused and that and the addition to the crosswalk label (see pics).
We headed up to the room, finished packing, and headed towards the cruise terminal to head out! We’re taking the Norwegian Encore to Alaska. Stops will include Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan and Victoria BC.
The Uber ride there was pretty funny. First, we had the first driver go right past us and then cancel. Ok. We rebooked. Same dude canceled us again. Rebooked again and third times a charm. This guy pulled up across the street, a city street, in downtown lol and we’re jaywalking across with our suitcases. The driver was an absolute hoot. Very entertaining conversation which ended with him telling Ed he looks like Elon Musk. I reassured Ed that if he looked like Elon Musk we wouldn’t be together ! Why, you ask? Because they talked Teslas, of course. “It’s always nice to drive rich people around.” Uhhhhhh, say what?
We explored the ship until our balcony room was ready. Overheard in the elevator: “Let’s eat lunch before it’s time for shenanigans,” said a mother to her kiddos. I thought that was pretty awesome and will definitely use that one!
I stopped at one of the bars. I remembered that I had a drink package. I shall survive off of orange soda (not a Pepsi fan) and Malibu rum and pineapple juice. I hadn’t PLANNED on drinking but since it’s there !
Two drinks in and so far any crew
member who has scanned my card has wished me a happy birthday. We talked to this nice crew member named Alberti from Peru on the Sun deck. (In two months, Ed is headed to Lima, Peru and will climb Machu Pichu.). So Alberti gave him a few restaurants go check out.
It was Happy birthday in my cabin! Ed arranged for the room to be decorated and have a cake delivered! How cool! If you’re ever wondering if it’s worth it to book the balcony room, yes, spending the extra $ is definitely worth it. Not saying that our stateroom was huge or anything but being able to go outside and chill is nice.
We relaxed in the sun on our balcony until it was time to head back up for the sail away party which was quite crowded. I had never thought I’d see the day where the young and quite old would be joined together by House Of Pain “Jump Around”. Quite a sight to see!
We had a wonderful dinner at Cagney’s Steakhouse that was part of the signature dining plan. Bought a $30 picture because we: 1 never have pics of us, 2 never have GOOD pics of us. Enjoyed some live music.
I stopped counting the number of drinks consumed. Not that I have a problem with alcohol, much less free alcohol, but I had a good day. Plain and simple. I’m excited to see what 46 has in store for me.
